Acer Hong Kong's Ace-worthy Beginnings

Acer Inc., more commonly known as Acer, is a Taiwanese multinational electronics corporation that specializes in designing, manufacturing, and distributing advanced technological devices. The company was founded by Stan Shih, his wife Carolyn Yeh, and five other partners to form Multitech in 1976 that was headquartered in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.

When the company first started, it only had 11 employees and US$25,000 worth of capital. Acer originally started its business as a distributor of electronic parts and a consultant in the use of microprocessor technologies under the Multitech name. Multitech also manufactured its own products (the Micro-Professor MPF-I training kit, Microprofessor II, and Microprofessor III) before stepping foot into the IBM PC compatible market and became a successful PC manufacturer. In 1987, Multitech changed its name to Acer.

Acer’s Milestones in Its Success Journey

When consumer notebooks became the catalyst for growth for the PC industry in the mid-2000s, Acer immediately became one of the primary beneficiaries thanks to its low overhead costs and dedication to the channel. Acer’s business in Europe expanded rapidly due to the company’s traditional strategy of targeting retail consumers instead of focusing on online sales and business consumers that Acer’s rivals were aiming for at the time. Acer eventually became the world’s third-largest computer provider and second-largest provider for notebooks after buying over Gateway in the USA and Packard Bell in Europe.

Acer Today

Today, Acer has over 7000 employees worldwide and operates in 70 countries. The company also has approximately 95,000 retail locations that span across 160+ countries.

Taiwanese multinational hardware manufacturer Acer is one of the most recognizable brands that specializes in providing advanced technological products and services. Acer Hong Kong is known to be a trustworthy designer, marketer, and distributor of high-tech products which are shipped and sold all around the world including North America, Europe, and Asia. Acer Teaching Ethics in Schools
HK$ 167.00 HK$ 196.00
Kobo
Teaching Ethics in Schools provides a fresh approach to moral education. Rather than conveying a set of mandated values, codes of conduct, behaviour management plans or religious instruction, moral education is presented as an essential aspect of study throughout the school curriculum. Ethical concepts from the history of philosophy are introduced, which in turn link to ways of thinking about conduct and character. The book illuminates all kinds of moral dilemmas and contemporary challenges faced by teachers today. Responsibilities of parents vis a vis schools, and religious versus secular paradigms are discussed. The principles of social diversity and inclusion, and the need to find a balance between moralising and permissive social constructs are explored. Teaching Ethics in Schools shows how an ethical framework forms a natural fit with recent educational trends that emphasise collaboration and inquiry-based learning.

Acer The Autonomy Premium
HK$ 183.00 HK$ 215.00
Kobo
The Autonomy Premium is a concise response to the popular and often loosely defined debate about whether higher levels of student achievement may flow from autonomy in school management and professional practice. Drawing on over 40 years of research Brian J Caldwell examines a series of compelling questions that bring the reader through the key pillars of autonomy-related studies. These include: Why are there mixed results in research into links between school autonomy and student achievement? What do more autonomous schools actually do to make gains in student achievement? Is professional autonomy the key driver for improvement? Through the lens of case studies in Australian public schools with support for autonomy across levels of government, the book focuses on research where the links to learning improvement have been mapped. In addition to a capacity for local decision-making for school improvement, the findings highlight local discretion in curriculum, personnel, pedagogy and resources. Professional autonomy trumps structural autonomy. The Autonomy Premium is essential reading for anyone with an interest in understanding the policy and practice of designing drivers that can shape successful school autonomy.

Acer Pathways to School System Improvement
HK$ 183.00 HK$ 215.00
Kobo
The roads to school system improvement can be rocky. The nature of schools and school systems makes them very difficult to change. These are complex organisations, subject to a range of demands and opportunities from multiple stakeholders from parents and governments, from local communities and business, from other educational authorities and institutions, and, of course, from their staff and students. Effective educational leaders appreciate this complexity and work with colleagues and others across and beyond their education system to make a positive and meaningful difference. Pathways to School System Improvement is designed for educators with an interest and responsibility for school system improvement. Drawing on data from two national pilot programs Principals as Literacy Leaders (Pall) and Leading Aligned Numeracy Development (Land) it looks at effective strategies for implementing system improvement and presents approaches for capitalising on the successes and overcoming the shortcomings of initiative-based reforms.
