Apple iPhone XR Price in Hong Kong, Release Date, and Specs

Apple iPhone 9 Turned Out to Be iPhone XR

Apple analysts and aficionados originally thought that the newly released 6.1-inch phone would be named the iPhone 9. However, as it was announced during the company’s iPhone event on September 12, the device was called the iPhone XR. It is one of the three new iPhones alongside the iPhone XS and XS Max. Here is everything you need to know about the iPhone XR price, release date, and specs.

iPhone XR Release Date

The iPhone XR, introduced on September 12, 2018, is a lower-cost device that’s being sold alongside the newer iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

iPhone XR Price

The iPhone XR is far more affordable than its siblings. For the 64GB model, the price starts at HK$5,199, while the 128GB model is priced at HK$5,699. The phone is available in White, Black, Blue, Yellow, Coral, and (PRODUCT) Red finishes.

iPhone XR Specs

The Apple iPhone XR sports a 6.1-inch LCD Retina Display with a pixel resolution of 1792x828p. In terms of display size, it sits in between its two siblings, with the iPhone XS Max wielding the biggest screen at 6.5 inches. Much like the iPhone X, it has a notch at the top of the display which houses the sensors, cameras and speakers.

iPhone XR Design and Built

The iPhone XR has thick bezels around its display and a chassis that is made of high-quality aluminium, sporting an IP67 rating that allows it to withstand being submerged in up to 1 meter of water for half an hour.

iPhone XR Camera

Moving on to the cameras, the iPhone XR has only got a single sensor on the back unlike the iPhone XS and XS Max. Its rear camera has 12 megapixels with f/1.8 aperture, while the front has 7 megapixels with f/2.2. The rear camera comes with a True Tone Flash that makes for a good viewing experience when watching videos and playing mobile games.

iPhone XR Processor and Battery

The iPhone XR comes with the latest Apple A12 chip which offers faster launching of apps and more improvements on battery and performance. In terms of battery life, while Apple didn’t unveil its capacity, they claimed the device offers more juice than the iPhone 8 Plus, with an additional 1.5 hours of use. What’s more, the iPhone XR comes with a fast-charging and wireless charging compatibility that provides a quick and convenient way to recharge the device.

iPhone XR- Other Features

The iPhone XR is one of the first few Apple phones that come with a dual-SIM capability. However, this feature is only for devices released in China, as the rest of the world gets a single SIM slot and a built-in eSIM. Other marquee features on the iPhone XR include the iOS 12, Apple’s latest mobile operating system, and 4K video capture, amongst others.

Does iPhone XR have live wallpapers?

The live wallpaper feature may have been introduced with the iPhone 6s, but it is not available on the iPhone XR. The main reason why you may not be able to use this feature on the iPhone XR because it lacks the 3D Touch feature that is essential for Live Wallpaper to be effective.

Is iPhone XR waterproof?

The iPhone XR is not waterproof, but it’s water-resistant. You can take them for a swim without too much concern- even in saltwater. According to Apple, the iPhone XR can survive a dunk up to 1 meter (3 feet) for 30 minutes, meeting the IP67 standard.

Is iPhone cheaper in Hong Kong?

While Hong Kong’s Apple store once sold the cheapest iPhones and iPads in the world, that’s no longer true- the United States is now the cheapest. Hong Kong gets Apple products on the initial launch date and attracts buyers from around the region. Older models will be available cheaper through parallel markets.

The iPhone XR's single rear camera lacks optical zoom and has a limited portrait mode. Its LCD screen, while large, bright and vivid, is still a step below the iPhone XS' OLED in contrast. The aluminum XR is slightly less durable than the steel XS
