GoPro Hero4 Black HK: Prices and Features

GoPro Hero4 Black: A Broadcast-Quality Cam at the Right Price

The action camera market is continuously expanding at a fast pace, and the household name in this segment is GoPro. The brand is popular for its cameras that come with premium features and are used in sports and outdoors. One of their best lineups of cameras is the GoPro Hero4 that comes in three models – the core GoPro Hero4, the GoPro Hero4 Silver, and the GoPro Hero4 Black. The Hero4 Black comes with a sturdy mount and 4K video capability that are sought-after features for many enthusiasts and hobbyists. Here’s a rundown of the GoPro Hero4 Black features.

Build and Design

The Hero4 Black comes with two parts – the camera unit and the waterproof housing. You can easily remove the housing and replace it with other designs that provide different degrees of protection depending on the type of activity. Using the waterproof housing will certainly add bulk to the Hero4 Black, but it will remain compact, unlike other action cameras of similar designs.

The mount on the Hero4 Black is very secure and has a well-thought-out design that allows the camera to be securely attached without wobble. Both the mount and housing undergo a rigorous quality check to ensure it can withstand crashes and the elements.

Intuitive Buttons and Straightforward Operation

Using the camera is pretty straightforward. It comes with three buttons that will allow you access to the settings and menus. On the front of the camera, you will find a large on/off button that also serves as the mode button. This will allow you to switch between Setup, Video, Multi-Shot, Photo, and Playback. Once you have selected a mode, there will be a number of options which you can access by a single push of the settings button found on the side of the device.

Video

To get started with your video recording, simply switch on and press the record button. Hero4 Black provides a lot of capture options for resolution, frame rates, etc. You can create 1080p videos with a decent 30 fps that offer a smooth playback. For HD recording, you will get 8 options for fps, meaning you can select the highest fps and edit it down to 24 fps, providing a smooth slow-motion footage which is a trend among extreme-sports enthusiasts.

Performance

If you own a GoPro Hero 3+, you will be amazed by the Hero4 Black’s 4K footage quality, which has a far smoother motion. GoPro also improved the lens in the Hero4 Black, now capturing impressive quality footage.

In the sound department, the Hero4 Black picks up ambient noise pretty well. There is an option to attach it to an external microphone via a USB which will appeal to those who want to buy the GoPro Hero4 Black music version.

Sharp images with fine color detail, Bright 1.7-inch touchscreen LCD, Easy control over Wi-Fi and mobile app, Access to huge selection of mounts and cases
Video and photos can look a tad hazy, Case muffles audio
The Hero4 Silver has the now-classic GoPro design – a black-and-metallic block measuring 2.3 x 1.1 x 1.6 inches (including the protruding lens) and weighing a scant 2.9 ounces. The camera is neither ruggedized nor mountable without a case, however. The st...

Less capable than other GoPro cameras. Inferior image quality in detail, dynamic range, color depth, and image noise. Too costly at $400, the same price as the much better Hero4 Silver
