It is hard for companies to contain unwanted leaks being exposed to the public but HTC has managed to do it. HTC has kept one feature of the U11 a secret until now – its camera features. Although there were several leaks prior to the smartphone’s launch such as a squeezy interface, high-gloss glass back, a USB-C port rather than a headphone jack, the device’s camera features have only been unveiled yesterday.
The U11’s camera has been given a record-breaking score of 90 points by DxOMark, the trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements in the industry. This is an impressive score that surpasses other flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Google Pixel.
The phone’s camera features HTC’s UltraPixel 3 technology and an aperture size of f/1.7 that enables the U11 to pull in more light for better performance in dim environments. HTC also mentioned that the U11 is equipped with advanced optical image stabilization features to provide sharper images. Initial demonstrations of the function conducted in HTC’s labs look impressive so far.
Furthermore, HTC also pointed out that the U11 smartphone’s photo taking capabilities are increased with other features such as a very fast autofocus and solid dynamic exposure thanks to HDR Boost which the company claims
Impressive cameras also mean that the U11 smartphone has improved video-recording functions. The U11 features Temporal Noise Reduction technology, which can reduce unwanted noise that exists in videos by comparing previous and next frames of video.
Other factors that might have contributed to the record-breaking DxOMark score are probably the full sensor autofocus that HTC claims are typically found in top DSLR cameras in the market today or the 16MP front camera. Nevertheless, the impressive rating from DxOMark certainly marks a promising start for the U11 smartphone.
