The Razer Blackwidow Chroma isn’t your everyday computer keyboard that typically uses rubber membranes underneath the keys. The Blackwidow Chroma is a mechanical keyboard, meaning that under each key is a separate mechanical switch which offers a superior typing experience that offers great tactile feedback and also faster actuation for greater response times.
Many brands utilize mechanical switches that are sourced from their OEMs for their keyboards, but Razer wanting to innovate and bring specific features to their keyboards has stepped in and got around to manufacturing their very own Razer mechanical switches instead. Razer’s mechanical switches are similar to the mechanical switch standards from Cherry MX, but the Razer switches are designed to be a little bit more tuned to gaming.
Razer’s very own mechanical switches come in two different types: Razer Green and Razer Orange, both mirroring their Cherry MX counterparts of blue and orange switches respectively. Razer switches share the same designs as Cherry MX switches (meaning you can also switch out keycaps between the two), but with certain differences in its features; Razer’s are more attuned for gamers.
Razer’s switches – both green and orange – have an extended lifespan of 80 million keystrokes and shorter actuation points for faster response times in comparison to typical mechanical switches. Razer green switches are loud and clicky, producing a distinct click with each press along with a tactile feel; Razer orange switches on the other hand are silent but with a tactile feedback in each keypress.
A Razer keyboard wouldn’t be complete without the inclusion of their proprietary Chroma lighting system. The Razer Blackwidow Chroma has a single LED under each individual key, enabling the gamer to customize their keyboard’s looks from 16.8 million different shades of colours. Chroma also allows the gamer to apply effects to the lights to make their keyboard a little more exciting What makes Chroma lighting even more exciting, however, is the integration with specific games; in-game actions will play out through light effects on the keyboard, making your gaming experience a little bit more immersive than usual.
