Apple and Samsung are the brands most people expect a lot from but Vivo may just be the one to steal the show. This Chinese brand made quite an impression at both CES and MWC 2018 with its cutting-edge in-display fingerprint scanner that will be incorporated in the Vivo Apex – the latest concept phone from the company. It has amazing features that are like nothing you’ve ever seen in a smartphone. Here’s a list of first-ever features that this Vivo phone has.
The Vivo Apex’s most notable aspect is its almost completely bezel-less screen. It boasts a screen-to-body ratio of 98% which is something way beyond any other mobile phones on the market today, even by big phone brands. Although there are still bezels, they are barely noticeable around the sides, along with the chin measuring a mere 1.8mm and 4.3mm thick, respectively. Furthermore,, it has a full HD resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, providing an immersive viewing experience. With this immersive screen, the Vivo Apex is expected to be a wonderful device for multimedia and gaming.
For the first time in a mobile phone, you can hear the sound coming from underneath the display. Because of its huge screen (minus the infamous notch), the speaker, which Vivo calls Screen Soundcasting, is now incorporated into the device’s 6-inch display, meaning you’ll hear the sound coming through the screen or front panel clearly.
When it comes to calls, it offers realistic and natural audio quality. You can expect the voices to have depth and excellent sound, all thanks to the Screen Soundcasting tech that maximizes energy and minimizes leakage of sound. All in all, Vivo Apex’s unique positioning of its speaker is said to be a well-thought-out concept, as it won’t leave users in a state of dissatisfaction.
Another noteworthy feature of the Vivo Apex is its in-screen fingerprint scanner. In contrast to modern phones today, this Vivo phone model has a specific screen surface area which is used for the sensor so your finger(s) isn’t limited to a single area. You can also use two of your fingerprints or different fingerprints at the same time, meaning you can use someone’s finger along with yours to unlock the phone. This could be highly beneficial when securing a banking app.
With the amount of screen it has and the absence of a notch, where do you put the light sensor and the front camera? For the first time ever, Vivo has placed a retractable motorized camera at the top of the phone. It is now found under the top of the device and only comes out if you open the camera app and press the front cam button, and retracts back once you tap the front button again. This amazing feature comes out in just 0.8 seconds; and likewise, when it retracts back inside the device.
