Xiaomi Redmi 4X – A Budget Smartphone with Top-of-the-Line Devices

Xiaomi is to the top smartphone brands as David was to Goliath. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer has made a name for itself for its wallet-friendly phones that offer more than what is expected of them. Over the years, Xiaomi smartphones have proven that affordable smartphones should not be underestimated and the Redmi 4X looks to continue the legacy. If you are on a tight budget but still want to purchase a reliable smartphone, then the Redmi 4X is one that you should seriously consider. Below are some of the highlights to look out for on the Redmi 4X.

Design and Build Quality

At one glance, it is easy to mistake the Redmi 4X for an iPhone 6 due to its sleek look. It does not have the plasticky look that many budget models have, giving the smartphone two thumbs up in terms of its aesthetics. The rear is mainly made up of quality, brushed aluminium which makes the device more visually-appealing. The metal rear also doubles as a coolant that enables the phone to operate at optimum temperatures. Its rounded corners provide better grip and make the device comfortable to hold in the hand. Weighing a mere 150g and coupled with its svelte build, the Redmi 4X is a great smartphone for frequent travellers as it can be carried around easily.

Screen and Display

The Redmi 4X is fitted with a 5-inch IPS LCD panel that has a 720 x 1,280p resolution and a pixel density of 294ppi. This means that the screen is bright and colour reproduction is decent for a smartphone of its price. The panel is bright enough for the smartphone to be used under direct sunlight without affecting visibility. Although the screen is not as what we are used to, it should suffice for everyday uses like browsing the web and texting so there should be no complaints.

Performance

In charge of the Redmi 4X’s performance is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core chipset that is mated with an Adreno 505 GPU. This pairing offers more power than what you might expect, enabling the device to have a smooth performance overall. There are three Redmi 4X variants for you to choose from based on your personal preference – 2GB with 16GB, 3GB with 32GB, and 4GB with 64GB.

Battery

The Redmi 4X also does not disappoint when battery life is concerned. Xiaomi has equipped the device with a 4,100mAh battery that gives the phone enough juice to last through the day easily on a single charge. The device also comes with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 which fully charges the unit in under 3 hours. If you cannot wait that long, a mere 10 minutes is enough to give you about one or two hours of usage.
