Winner of the Grand Prize at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, the acclaimed 2011 SBS historical series Tree with Deep Roots

) is set during the reign of 15th-century monarch Sejong, the fourth king of Joseon. Coming to power in a time of great turbulence, King Sejong is widely remembered as one of Korea's greatest monarchs for his benevolent rule and his advancement of science, literature, and policy. One of his most lasting legacies is the creation of the Hangul script, which helped spread literacy among commoners.
Based on Lee Jeong Myeong's novel, Tree with Deep Roots revolves around a series of mysterious murders in the court in the days leading up to the announcement of the Hangul script. Han Suk Kyu delivers a commanding performance as King Sejong that won him the Grand Prize at the SBS Drama Awards. Jang Hyuk plays a guard who originally entered the palace to assassinate the king, and gets pulled into investigating the murders. Tree with Deep Roots also co-stars Shin Se Kyung, Super Junior's Kim Ki Bum, Hyun Woo, Jo Jin Woong, Yoon Je Moon, Shin So Yool, and Yoo Hyun Soo, and features special appearances from Song Joong Ki as the young Sejong and Baek Yoon Shik as King Taejong.
