Haglofs Hong Kong: Environmentally Friendly Sport Gears

Haglöfs was founded by a man with both visions and dreams. Wiktor Haglof, son of a forester, was a good old-fashioned carpenter, fully convinced that in order for something to be really good, you had to make it yourself. When your gear and clothing are designed to be a reliable partner, only high-quality crafted goods make the cut. Haglöfs is built on a strong value-driven foundation; they are reliable, curious and proud.

The New Standard of Sustainable Outdoor Clothing

Over 10 years ago, Haglöfs decided to not only create sustainable products but also weave sustainability into the company strategy. The goal was to product sustainable jackets and other garments via processes that are sustainable, including the manufacturing process and the supply chain.

This holistic strategy and active approach have led to several of Haglöfs’ achievements - all of which serve to prove just how sustainable this Swedish outdoor sports brand really is. Haglofs has been a member of the renowned Fair Wear Foundation since 2012, an honour that’s only conceded to companies with products, materials and supply chains deemed worthy of membership.

Haglöfs Gears Come With DWR Coating That’s Completely Free of Any Fluorocarbons

DWR stands for Durable Water Repellency. This kind of treatment is essential for outdoor jackets and outdoor clothing, in general, to keep you dry when you’re out exploring nature. Many brands use standard DWR in their products, which is made with so-called PFCs. These chemical compounds are not biodegradable and they make our water toxic, so the chemicals aren’t just bad for the environment but also for humankind.

This is why fluorocarbon alternatives are so important! They protect you and your jacket from the rain, and the environment from toxins. It works by smoothing the entire surface of the jacket, so raindrops find no grip and simple slides off.

79% of The Brand’s Clothing is Bluesign Certified

The bluesign certificate is awarded by Switzerland-based bluesign technologies AG, which assesses the environmental impact of companies and products. To be bluesign certified, a company needs to reduce the three following aspects as much as possible: resource waste, CO2 emissions and water usage. The company must also provide maximum product quality, job security for employees and consumer protection.

In a nutshell: the certificate is based on the quality of the production process and the products themselves. A lot of the aspects of the certification are hard to comply with, which is why not many brands can boast of being bluesign certified - but Haglöfs has already had several of its products certified.

29% of Haglöfs’ Clothing is Made of Recycled Materials

In its effort to use less raw materials, Haglöfs is turning more and more towards recycled materials. It does so by taking old fabrics, separating them and getting single threads out of them. Recycled polyester, recycled wool and recycled upholstery are already used in many of Haglöfs’ products. This is a good yet complex step towards protecting the environment. This new kind of process has great potential and Haglöfs is developing it further as we speak.
