Head Byron's Women
HK$ 88.00 HK$ 110.00
Kobo

One was the mother who bore him; three were women who adored him; one was the sister he slept with; one was his abused and sodomized wife; one was his legitimate daughter; one was the fruit of his incest; another was his friend Shelley's wife, who avoided his bed and invented science fiction instead. Nine women; one poet named George Gordon, Lord Byron - mad, bad and very very dangerous to know. The most flamboyant of the Romantics, he wrote literary bestsellers, he was a satirist of genius, he embodied the Romantic love of liberty (the Greeks revere him as a national hero), he was the prototype of the modern celebrity - and he treated women (and these women in particular) abominably. In Byron's Women, Alex Larman tells their extraordinary, moving and often shocking stories. In so doing, he creates a scurrilous 'anti-biography' of one of England's greatest poets, whose life he views - to deeply unflattering effect - through the prism of the nine damaged woman's lives.

Head The Lives of Tudor Women
HK$ 88.00 HK$ 110.00
Kobo

The turbulent Tudor age never fails to capture the imagination. But what was it actually like to be a woman during this period? This was a time when death in infancy or during childbirth was rife; when marriage was usually a legal contract, not a matter for love, and the education of women was minimal at best. Yet the Tudor century was also dominated by powerful and characterful women in a way that no era had been before. Elizabeth Norton explores the seven ages of the Tudor woman, from childhood to old age, through the diverging examples of women such as Elizabeth Tudor, Henry VIII's sister who died in infancy; Cecily Burbage, Elizabeth's wet nurse; Mary Howard, widowed but influential at court; Elizabeth Boleyn, mother of a controversial queen; and Elizabeth Barton, a peasant girl who would be lauded as a prophetess. Their stories are interwoven with studies of topics ranging from Tudor toys to contraception to witchcraft, painting a portrait of the lives of queens and serving maids, nuns and harlots, widows and chaperones.

Head Let Her Hear
HK$ 26.00
Kobo

Dear Reader, It is a common trend to read devotionals: a quick five-minute glance at the Scriptures so we can hang onto something throughout our day. We do well to look to the Scriptures for that glimpse, but God wants more from us. He wants our hearts all day, not just for five minutes. These parables do not substitute careful study of the Word. They give a starting point to focus on where God wants you to be all day, a help to see Him even while doing the mundane, routine, necessary, "mom" things in life. They remind us of the heavenly realm that's part of the earthly walk. Parable literally means "cast alongside" something else. Jesus's parables were stories cast alongside an earthly event to illustrate a truth. He united earthly things with heavenly meanings to illustrate truth. When the Jewish leaders rejected Him, Jesus turned exclusively to parables. When His disciples asked why, He responded, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear" (Mark 4:9, 23).Jesus told parables for those who sought God's truth. Some only heard the story. But others, seeking God's truth, had ears that heard. My parables, too, may be read by many as just stories. But to those moms struggling to find that glimpse of the heavenly realm through their hectic, demanding, earthly lives, "let her hear" truths of what one mom has heard from her Savior. Sonya ContrerasThese parables have been taken from articles previously written for my website and made into book form.
