Anime is popular worldwide because who doesn’t love cartoons? It’s also the simplest form of entertainment which is generally adapted from the comic versions. One Piece

The first episode was broadcasted in Japan in 1999 and is one of the longest running anime series. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy, a seventeen year old boy who has supernatural powers on a quest to become the king of the pirates.

Death Note

Based in a high-school setting, the series revolves around high school student Ichigo Kurosaki who is given the powers of a soul reaper to save his family. Cowboy Bebop

Probably the most influential anime shown in America as it touched on topics relating to existentialism, loneliness, and nihilism. The series revolves around four inhabitants of the spaceship Bebop as they make a living from bounty hunting.

Naruto

A coming-of-age series that follows an orphan named Naruto Uzumaki who aspires to be the next Hokage – the most powerful ninja and leader of the village. As he is very inept, it takes him on a journey to hone his skills where he faces various trial and tribulations.

Full-Metal Alchemist

Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric are brothers who practice the art of alchemy in hopes of bringing their deceased mother back to life using human transmutation. However, this practice is forbidden and a taboo. After the failed attempt to revive their mother, they go on a search for the Philosopher’s Stone to restore their bodies.

Dragon Ball Z

One of the most watched anime that is shown worldwide, Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku, along with the Z warriors to defend Earth against evil. This anime was actually inspired by classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West. The series emphasizes the concept of good vs. evil and teaches valuable lessons such as teamwork, loyalty, and trustworthiness. Throughout his childhood and into his adulthood, Son Goku has been trained in martial arts.
