The birth of Hollister Co
Hollister, or otherwise known as Hollister Co, is an American lifestyle brand created in the year 2000 by the parent company, Abercrombie & Fitch based on a fictional history surrounding its creator, John Hollister, Sr. John Hollister Sr migrated from New York to Dutch East Indies and built his company based on his name after his return to the United States, and settling down in California in 1922. To differentiate Hollister Co from the parent brand, A &F incorporates higher grade materials and fabrics into its production of clothing, thus increase the price of the goods.
Hollister Co mainly targets youths aged 14 to 18 years old but targets age group, 12 to 30 years old as well. Since its establishment, Hollister Co has opened three flagship stores and one secondary flagship stores in New York, SoHo district, London at Regent Street and in Munich, Färbergraben, Germany. The secondary flagship store is located on New York’s Fifth Avenue, with more plans to open more international flagship stores around the world, with Paris rumored to be the next location for the flagship store.
Hollister’s clothing line
In 2001, Hollister released its signature line of fragrances which include Hollister Co for women and men, August, Malaia, and Ryder for women and Drift, Jake, and HCO22 for men, all of which have been discontinued. In 2007, Hollister revamped its line of fragrances and released its first perfume called SoCal perfume for women and SoCal cologne for men. In conjunction with the opening of the flagship store in New York, Hollister released flagship-only cologne called Epic. The latest line of perfumes was released in 2012 called Addison for women.
Latest collaboration - Lucy Hale for Hollister
In August 2014, Hollister collaborates with ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars star to come out with a limited time only two-part Fall collection, inspired by Hale’s sense of style as well as the idea of creating apparel that guys and girls could wear for a coffee run or hanging out with friends for a casual day out. This is the first time that a youth-targeted Hollister has its first celebrity collaboration after its parent company, Abercrombie & Fitch announced that plans to re-brand Hollister is on its way in order to compete with competitor stores such as Forever 21, H&M and Zara along with other giants such as ASOS.
The entire collection is designed solely by the actress turned country singer, and the first part of the collection features Hale’s off-duty style with plenty of throw-on and go layers in cool colorways, while the second part of the collection goes toward the weekend style wear than anything else, loaded with super soft separates and silhouettes.
Hale’s personal style aligns with Hollister look that reflects the Southern California style and it is the main reason why the creative director of Abercrombie & Fitch, chose Hale as its celebrity brand collaboration. The collection has 30 pieces consists of rompers, T-shirts, shorts, dresses, leggings, sweatshirts, and pants, with a “So Cal” cool vibe and each piece falls in the price range of under $50.
