Taking its inspiration from the real-life story of Olympic gold medalist Jang Mi Ran, the coming-of-age romcom Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
tells an encouraging story about dreams, love and growth. Deeply influenced by her father, Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung) becomes a promising weightlifter at a young age. Jung Joon Hyung (Nam Joo Hyuk) is a talented swimmer plagued by his numerous false-start disqualifications. While riding on a bicycle, Joon Hyung bumps into Bok Joo and his handkerchief gets taken away by Bok Joo. Believing that Joon Hyung stole her favorite T-shirt, Bok Joo refuses to return the handkerchief but soon realizes that Joon Hyung was the boy she saved many years ago.
