Mei Ah My Tutor Friend 2 (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 74.00
A follow-up to the 2003 hit comedy My Tutor Friend starring Kwon Sang Woo and Kim Ha Neul, My Tutor Friend 2 features a brand new cast with the same concept and charm. Fresh young stars Lee Cheong Ah (Ssunday Seoul) and Park Ki Woong (Art of Fighting) portray the film's lovable feuding couple. Staying true to the genre, the film readily hams it up, letting the romance bloom amidst oddball humor and hilarious scenes of culture shock and language mishaps. My Tutor Friend 2 is co-directed by Ji Kil Woong, the cinematographer for the first My Tutor Friend and King and The Clown, and Kim Ho Jung who previously served as assistant director on Repechage.

Japanese-Korean girl Junko (Lee Cheong Ah) travels to Seoul as an exchange student in hopes of seeing a Korean student whom she had fallen in love with in Japan. When she arrives at her new university, she finds out that her love-to-be is in the army. On top of that, the guesthouse she's staying at is full of rowdy young guys, including the owner's grating son Jong Man (Park Ki Woong) who also happens to be her Korean tutor. This disagreeable tutor, however, is a lot more interested in teaching her inappropriate words than conjugation. The two initially spend all their time fuming and feuding, but Junko slowly discovers there's more to Jong Man under his insensitive exterior.

Mei Ah La Comedie humaine (Blu-ray) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 272.00
Art and life thoroughly imitate each other in the hilarious Hong Kong comedy La Comedie Humaine. A fresh, conceptual take on the tired hitman genre, the Chan Hing-Ka/Janet Chun film is led by one of the least likely actors to play a professional killer on the big screen: Chapman To. The funnyman manages to give the comedic performance of his career as a Mainland Chinese assassin who also happens to love the movies. To is paired with the equally hilarious Wong Cho Lam, who puts his over-the-top mannerisms to good use as a scriptwriter that strikes up an unlikely friendship with his deadly visitor. The two are also joined by a game cast that includes longtime character actor Hui Siu Hung (also a Johnnie To regular), Fiona Sit (2 Young), and popular young model Kama Lo (Poker King). Praised by Hong Kong audiences, La Comedie Humaine became a true Hong Kong hit in the summer of 2010 thanks to its irreverent humor and the two lead actors' passionate efforts to support the film, which included cinema visits to thank audiences throughout Hong Kong.

Mainland Chinese hitman Spring (Chapman To) arrives in Hong Kong with his manager Setting Sun (Hui Siu Hung). However, when various complications separate them, Spring is taken in by nice-guy scriptwriter Soya (Wong Cho Lam), who tends to his new visitor perhaps a little too well. After several failed attempts to kill him, Spring slowly warms up to Soya, and the two become friends. Spring slowly adjusts to his new life in Hong Kong with his new friend, and even helps him fix his dysfunctional relationship with neurotic girlfriend Tin Oi (Fiona Sit). However, when Setting Sun finds his prot g , he forces Spring to abandon all personal attachments, including his friendship with troubled pregnant teenager Maggie (Kama Lo).

Mei Ah My Heart Is That Eternal Rose (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 55.00 HKD from YesAsia
Mei Ah My Heart Is That Eternal Rose (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 55.00
Patrick Tam's classic heroic bloodshed action-romance My Heart Is That Eternal Rose is finally arriving on DVD!

Before he won multiple Best Director awards for After This, Our Exile, Patrick Tam helmed the 1989 film My Heart Is That Eternal Rose. Headlined by Kenny Bee (Shanghai Blues) and Joey Wang (A Chinese Ghost Story), the film further demonstrates Tam's ability to handle multiple genres with appreciable artistry. Essentially a pulpy romance, My Heart Is That Eternal Rose features plenty of iconography from Hong Kong's storied heroic bloodshed genre. Artful romanticism combined with menacing gangsters, honorable hitmen, and a healthy helping of blood and bullets help make My Heart Is That Eternal Rose a classic Hong Kong film in the truest sense of the word. Tony Leung Chiu Wai co-stars in an award-winning supporting performance, and regular Wong Kar Wai collaborator Christopher Doyle handles the cinematography.

Rick (Kenny Bee) and Lap (Joey Wang) are star-crossed lovers whose initial romance is torn apart by the murder of a cop (Ng Man Tat), involving both Rick and her father (Kwan Hoi San). Years later, Rick and Lap meet once more, but circumstances have changed. Rick is now a suave hitman for hire, while Lap is the girlfriend of powerful crime boss Shen (Chan Wai Man). The years and distance have taken their toll on the lovers, but their passion still burns, drawing the two back together. Their treachery does not escape the notice of Shen, nor Shen's right-hand man, played by Shaw Brothers legend Gordon Liu. Rick and Lap's only ally may be Cheung (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), a mousy triad who carries his own torch for Lap. With few options left to the lovers, and with Shen in hot pursuit, the stage is set for a violent, blood-drenched finale.

Mei Ah Lee Rock (1991) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 55.00
Andy Lau delivers a powerful performance in Lee Rock I, the first of two films chronicling the true story of one Hong Kong police officer's rise to power. Lee Rock (Andy Lau) is a barely-literate street kid who joins the police force only to learn a rough lesson: the goal of being a cop is to gain promotions, and not necessarily to protect and serve. Bribes and kickbacks are a part of the game, and to try and remain clean is to invite isolation and poverty. Lee Rock tries to stick to his personal ideals anyway. But his righteousness earns him derision of the fellow cops and even causes him to lose his beloved fiancee Rose (Chingmy Yau)! Eventually, Lee Rock becomes determined to become Chief of Police to affect change from within, but the obstacles are great. His corrupt superior (Paul Chun) is looking to destroy him, and his new flame Grace (Sharla Cheung) happens to be the daughter of a top gangster! Can Lee Rock make it to the top without tarnishing his very soul? Andy Lau earned a Best Actor Nomination for his performance as the title character in Lee Rock, a tense and intelligent motion picture that brings true-to-life drama to the Hong Kong police genre. Followed by the sequel Lee Rock II, which features the return of Chingmy Yau, and also Aaron Kwok as Lee Rock's son!

Mei Ah Give Love (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 74.00
Released in Hong Kong and China around Valentine's Day, Give Love features the fresh pairing of popular singer-actress Gigi Leung (Turn Left Turn Right) and Taiwan actor Wilson Chen (Blue Gate Crossing, Kung Fu Dunk). Gigi Leung turns on the charms as the leggy unlucky-in-love heroine to Wilson Chen's straight man in this light romantic drama co-directed by rom-com king Joe Ma (Love Undercover) and actor-turned-director Leefire. Mainland television star Shao Bing co-stars as the cheating husband, and familiar Hong Kong faces like Hui Siu Hung, Shaun Tam, Fan Siu Wong, Emily Kwan, and Hotcha show up for comedic support.

Airline employee Yutong (Wilson Chen) falls in love at first sight when Leslie (Gigi Leung) comes to his counter to check in, but he's too shy to say anything, and chance passes him by. One year later, Leslie shows up at Yutong's house as his new sister-in-law. Since his brother (Shao Bing) is in China, the awkwardly righteous Yutong takes it upon himself to look after Leslie, which consists mostly of giving her earnest talks about drinking less and dressing more conservatively. Though still very much enamored by Leslie, Yutong is too diffident and upright to profess his feelings - until he discovers that his brother is having an affair.

Mei Ah Happy Birthday (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 66.00
Asian entertainment fans probably recognize Rene Liu as an all-round talent - an actress (A World Without Thieves), a singer, and a writer. She plays a young woman who always feels insecure in Happy Birthday, a film based on her own short story, alongside Hong Kong heartthrob Louis Koo who takes on a completely different role after his suave triad character in Election. Directed by Jingle Ma (Tokyo Raider) and written by Sylvia Chang (20 30 40), Happy Birthday portrays an ambivalent relationship between two college friends who refrain from dating despite their deep but repressed love. Their innocence beliefs in love, no matter how distant to most people in reality, remind viewers of the sweetest memories of their youthful days.

Rene Liu successfully delivers the complex role of Mi, who chooses to remain single rather than risking the slightest chance of being dumped. She loves her friend Nan (Louis Koo) more than anyone, yet she asks him to be her best friend instead of boyfriend. For ten years, he wishes her a happy birthday no matter how far they are geographically apart or who they are with. However, this year his greeting arrives 42 hours late...

Produced by Eric Tsang, the film also features his daughter Bowie Tsang as Mi's best friend and Lawrence Chou (AV, Re-Cycle) as Nan's roommate. Ng Yiu Hon shows superb acting as Mi's caring and liberal-minded father, and his son Carl Ng also guest stars in the film. Writers Tang Kit Ming and Mathias Woo have earned solid reputations in writing romantic radio dramas and artistic performances respectively. In the Hong Kong theatrical version of the film, Rene Liu's character is dubbed in Cantonese by actress Amy Kwok, wife of Lau Ching Wan.

Mei Ah Legendary Amazons (2011) (VCD) (Hong kong Version)
HK$ 74.00
Cecilia Cheung leads the Legendary Amazons to war in the Jackie Chan-produced costume action epic! It was the first to roll the camera among the Hong Kong actress's comeback projects after her five-year absence from the silver screen. Also returning is director Frankie Chan (A Warrior's Tragedy), who makes this his first film in the new millennium. In his ambitious retelling of the Yang warrior clan's heroic exploits, Cheung takes on the action-intensive lead role of Northern Song-dynasty female general Mu Guiying opposite Taiwan actor/singer Richie Jen as her husband Yang Zongbao. They are flanked by a splendid supporting cast that includes Mainland actress Liu Xiaoqing, action veteran Cheng Pei Pei, as well as Kathy Chow, Chen Zihan, Jin Qiaoqiao, Yu Na, Oshima Yukari, and veteran actor Wu Ma.

During the Northern Song Dynasty, China was often invaded by its powerful neighbor Western Xia. For generations, the loyal warriors of the Yang family dedicated their lives to defending Song's borders. But as the treacherous Prime Minister (Wu Ma) was withholding reinforcements, most male members of the clan had been killed on the battlefield, leaving General Yang Zongbao (Richie Jen) and his vastly outnumbered squad to guard the crucial Heaven Gate Pass. When words come back from the front line declaring the fall of Zongbao, the corrupt imperial court orders Zongbao's young son Wenguang (Xiao Mingyu) to lead the campaign against the ten-times-stronger Western Xia forces. To help Wenguang and protect him on his dangerous mission, the 12 grieving widows of the Yang clan - led by Mu Guiying (Cecilia Cheung), Princess Chai (Liu Xiaoqing), and She Taijun (Cheng Pei Pei) - are determined to arm themselves up and enter the deadly final battle...

Mei Ah Here Comes Fortune (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 74.00
An under-appreciated entry among the Chinese New Year films of 2010, Here Comes Fortune is nonetheless a typical crowd-pleaser with all the essential elements of a Spring Festival fare: family-friendly comedy, a storyline that involves buckets of money, and an ensemble cast packed with celebrities. Written and directed by James Yuen, the fantasy romantic comedy boasts a star-studded cast headed by Canto-pop icon Alan Tam, who dons the costume of the God of Fortune and leads his fellow money gods Kitty Zhang (CJ7) and Lam Tze Chung (Shaolin Soccer) to earth. "Principal" Tam's mission is to help a hapless office lady (Hong Kong diva Miriam Yeung) to achieve success in life, but an accident renders him without memories and magic powers. Lam Tze Chung transforms into a 10-year-old girl to reward $100 million to a good-hearted nurse (Mainland actress Tao Hong), while Kitty Zhang gives blind pianist (Taiwan actor Chang Chen) something more valuable than gold. Along the way they meet other characters played by Sandrine Pinna, Carl Ng, Richard Ng, Ella Koon, Cheng Pei Pei, Kenneth Tsang, Wu Ma, Lee Lik Chi, Tin Kai Man, Tats Lau, Vincent Kok...and tons more cameos that could outnumber 72 Tenants of Prosperity!

Mei Ah The Moss (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 51.00
Up-and-coming Hong Kong director Derek Kwok follows his acclaimed debut feature The Pye-Dog with the gritty crime and action drama The Moss. Building on overlapping threads and conflicted characters, Kwok applies the narrative style and earthy aesthetics of The Pye-Dog to a much more harrowing and ambitious story. Popular actor Shawn Yue (Invisible Target) gives it his brooding best as a desperate, crooked cop caught between the law, squaring off against long-time-no-see action star Louis Fan Siu Wong (Story of Ricky). In addition to familiar supporting players Eric Tsang, Liu Kai Chi, and Shaun Tam, Kwok fills out the rest of his cast with some less likely names, including Shaw Brothers actress Siu Yam Yam who returned to screens last year in The Pye-Dog, rotund actor Ho Sai Man from Hollywood Hong Kong, and Hong Kong-Indian TV personality Gill Mohindepaul Singh.

Former undercover cop Jan (Shawn Yue) may be back on the force, but his life hasn't improved much. He spends most of his days plying the seedy streets of Kowloon, mixing with the triads and participating in the occasional brothel raid. When there's a shakeup in the underworld involving his former boss Tong (Liu Kai Chi), Jan gets unwittingly pulled into the line of fire. By the time the dust settles, Tong is dead, Jan's prostitute girlfriend (Bonnie Xian, Naraka 19) is comatose, and his girlfriend's teenage cousin Fa (newcomer Shi Xueyi) has been kidnapped - all the work of a homeless hitman (Fan Siu Wong). Kim Sang Jin, the director of box-office comedy hits like Attack the Gas Station!, Kick the Moon, and Jail Breakers, certainly knows better than any mainstream filmmaker how to craft a perfectly tuned comedy. Stepping in as the main attraction for this belly-clenching flick is Na Moon Hee ( Cruel Winter Blues ) who plays the eccentric, feisty Granny K. The veteran actress is currently riding at the peak of her career as a result of her popular role in highly rated TV sitcom Unhindered Highkick . The three kidnappers played by Kang Sung Jin (Running Wild), Yu Hae Jin (Small Town Rivals), and Yoo Gun (Operation Makeover), somehow end up as pathetic victims of their own kidnappee in this hilarious film.

Three dopey kidnappers scheme to abduct Granny K (Na Moon Hee), a successful businesswoman who owns a soup 'n' rice restaurant chain, and demand a whopping 50 million won ransom. There's Moon Geun Young (Yoo Hae Jin), a dorky lad who got all his money swindled away after cashing out his precious savings for a Uzbekistani marriage expedition. Joining Geun Young in the action is another lad (Kang Sung Jin) in desperate need of money to bail out his pregnant wife from jail and his brother-in-law (Yoo Gun), a twenty-something mindless dude who's never attended school or held a job in his life. But what first seemed like a ticket to dreamland becomes their ultimate nightmare. Granny K, kidnappee from hell, shows these boys who's the real boss around here.

Mei Ah Maiko Haaaan!!! (VCD) (English Subtitled) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 74.00
Kudo Kankuro, the acclaimed screenwriter of Ping Pong and his own directorial effort Yaji & Kita: The Midnight Pilgrims, teams up with director Mizuta Nobuo (Hanada Shonen-shi) for the exuberant comedy Maiko Haaaan!!!. Geisha are a perennial source of fascination both in Japan and abroad, and this buoyant film takes a comedic look at male obsession with the elusive, elegant beauties. Amusing and unpredictable, Maiko Haaaan!!! earns its extra exclamation points with a fast-paced narrative, flashy song and dance sequences, and raucous comedy against a graceful environment. Though far from serious, Maiko Haaaan!!! also offers a peek into the state of modern geisha culture, be it the lives of geisha or the strict rules, high-level contacts, and big wallets necessary for patrons to enter the hallowed doors of Ginza's most exclusive establishments. Popular veteran comedian Abe Sadao (Yaji & Kita) leads the cast alongside Tsutsumi Shinichi (Always - Sunset on Third Street) and Shibasaki Kou (Dororo), as a maiko or apprentice geisha.

Nerdy noodle company salaryman Onizuka Kimihiko (Abe Sadao) is obsessed with geisha, to the extent that he keeps a blog dedicated to geisha happenings. In order to get closer to the subject, he moves to Kyoto and happily throws himself into the city's geisha district. His greatest goal is to reach the prestigious inner circles, but he can't get too far with his low status and even lower funds. This fact is rubbed in his face by abrasive baseball player and teahouse regular Kiichiro Naito (Tsutsumi Shinichi). The two quickly develop an immature rivalry, with Kimihiko setting his eyes on the ultimate goal: a drinking game of strip baseball with the geisha.

Comedymeister Wong Jing mercilessly skewers the Hong Kong film industry in the satirical comedy Gigolo of Chinese Hollywood! Eric Tsang, Emotion Cheung, Nat Chan, and Gallen Lo play a quartet of Hong Kong film professionals (Loosely based on director Peter Chan, writer Vincent Kok, director Tsui Hark, and comedy superstar Stephen Chow!) who confront the downturn in the Hong Kong film industry with a unique solution: they'll become gigolos! With the cash made from offering their "services", the quartet hopes to fund their new film and hopefully bring back the Hong Kong box office. But when the money dries up, will they be able to make a workable film? Or can they somehow convince a clueless audience that this is "art"? Suki Kwan co-stars in a vicious Shu Qi parody as an actress who can't properly pronounce Cantonese, and Wong Jing targets various sources for his comedy highlights - including the work of internationally-celebrated filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai! Enter Fan Shi-Wao (Fiona Sit), an ultra-perky delivery girl who saves Chung and his team from an auto accident. As a reward, Chung shepherds Fan through cadet school, and allows her to join his largely useless cop team. But Interpol efficiency expert Suzuki (Japanese heartthrob Suzuki Takuya) has a special assignment for Fan: to go undercover on her own team to report on Chung's time-wasting ways! Will Fan sell out her own colleagues for a chance at love with Suzuki?

Director Joe Ma (Feel 100%, the first two Love Undercover films) brings his trademark style of comedy to this summer 2006 comedy hit. The film features the debut comic performance of Fiona Sit, who turned heads with her dramatic performance in Derek Yee's 2005 drama 2 Young. Numerous silly gags and wacky jokes populate Love Undercover 3, and Sit and her co-stars gamely navigate the off-the-wall chaos. • Special edition coming in a special translucent box numbered certificate
  • Also featuring a bonus DVD "Eros - Feel 100%" containing interviews with Wong Kar Wai, Gong Li, Chang Chen, and also the Japanese version of the trailer plus photo gallery.

Eros is a three-part anthology film about eroticism by a trio of world cinema's outstanding directors: Wong Kar Wai (2046), Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Twelve) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Blow up). The three vignettes in Eros may seem totally unrelated on surface, but underneath the different stories lies a common theme about erotic desires. Each episode explores erotic desires at a different level, from physical to psychological to spiritual. It also serves as an homage by two younger directors, Wong and Soderbergh, to the Italian master Antonioni who has informed and inspired their work.

  • "The Hand" by Wong Kar Wai
Cheongsam once again embodies the mood for love. "The Hand", widely acclaimed during the film's theatrical release, tells an erotic tale about a young tailor (Chang Chen) and a beautiful Hong Kong courtesan (Gong Li). Hands seems the only way to bridge the gap between love and desire...

  • Equilibrium by Steven Soderbergh
A peculiar and even perverse comedy about an advertising executive's (Robert Downey, Jr.) weird and erotic dream of a woman. Losing his equilibrium, he turns to his psychiatrist (Alan Arkin) who engages himself in all sorts of strange acts in the course of therapy...

  • The Dangerous Thread of Things by Michelangelo Antonioni
A middle-aged American man and his Italian wife enter a stalemate in their relationship. In the magnificent ruins and landscapes of Italy, he encounters a passionate Italian woman, but erotic desires means more than just physical intimacy...

Prolific maverick director Miike Takashi certainly kept the masses happy in 2007 with the release of three high-profile ready-made cult films. Sukiyaki Western Django and Like a Dragon both had enough Miike magic to spare, but it's Crows - Episode 0 that comes out on top of the heap as the auteur's most commercially successful film to date. Thanks to his extreme themes and even more extreme presentation, Miike alienates as much as he attracts, but he's got a legitimate box office hit on his hands with Crows - Episode 0. Based on Takahashi Hiroshi's bestselling manga Crows, Crows - Episode 0 takes Miike to familiar territory - high school gang violence - and he cuts through the subject matter at high-octane speed for a stylized, action-packed, and entertaining schoolyard brawl of a movie.

Delving into the hyper-stylized world of feuding high school gangs, Crows - Episode 0 actually takes place before the events of the manga (hence the title), setting up the origins and rivalries of the iconic characters. Other than the avid fanbase that already exists for the manga, Crows - Episode 0 gets some extra box office pull with the casting of heartthrobs Oguri Shun (Kisaragi) and Yamada Takayuki (Train Man) as the lead delinquents. Oguri, who also featured in Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django, continues to impress as one of Japanese cinema's most talented young stars, while Yamada Takayuki leaves behind the sensitive romantic lead image he's cultivated from numerous tearjerkers for a hard-hitting bout in the ring. Rounding out the film's problem teenager cast are Yabe Kyousuke (Dead or Alive, Kids Return), Kuroki Meisa (Under the Same Moon), and Izaki Yusuke and Izaki Hisato from boy band Flame.

Takaya Genji (Oguri Shun) just transferred to Suzuran, a high school notorious for its gang violence. At Suzuran High, hallways are battle zones, bloody brawls are everyday occurrences, and student life is dominated by the political winds of the school's many factions. Genji didn't end up here by accident though. He's here to do what even his yakuza father (Kishitani Goro) couldn't accomplish years before - rule the school. Already stirring up a storm on the first day, Genji is determined to fight his way up the pecking order and unite the gangs. But not if alpha crow Serizawa Tamao (Yamada Takayuki) has anything to say about it.
