Mei Ah An Empress and the Warriors (2008) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 24.00

An Empress and the Warriors features a Kelly Chen you've never seen before: in armor. The Canto-pop queen heads into battle for this impressive period adventure, in which she stars as Yan Feier, a determined princess who is given control of her troubled, war torn kingdom. Chen trained extensively to handle the role's physical demands, learning to ride a horse and handle a sword for director Tony Ching Siu Tung, who previously handled the action for Zhang Yimou's Hero and House of Flying Daggers, as well as numerous martial arts classics. Chen's co-stars are also top-notch; Leon Lai is her paramour, a kindly doctor with a hidden past, and action superstar Donnie Yen is her childhood friend and toughest warrior - and a man who holds a secret affection for his empress. A lavish tale filled with action and romance, An Empress and the Warriors is the 21st Century answer to the beloved Hong Kong Cinema swordplay classics of old. Yan Feier (Kelly Chen) is thrust into the role of empress when her father the King is viciously murdered by his own nephew, Wu Ba (Guo Xiao Dong). His treachery unknown to Feier, Wu Ba plots to gain control of the kingdom for himself. Meanwhile, Feier turns to legendary warrior Brother Hu (Donnie Yen) to instruct her in the ways of warfare. But Wu Ba sends assassins after Feier, and she's poisoned by an assassin's dart before being lost in the woods. Her absence throws the kingdom into chaos, and Brother Hu must maintain morale, all the while carrying a hidden love for his missing empress. Meanwhile, Feier is found and nursed back to health by Duan Lanquan (Leon Lai), a doctor who lives in a secluded forest treehouse. Lanquan awakens the woman within the warrior's armor, and given the alternative of a peaceful life without war, Feier must eventually make a difficult choice. Should she choose love, and remain just a woman? Or should she choose her kingdom, and return to being an empress?

HK$ 24.00

Miike Takashi hit box office gold in 2007 with the high school brawler Crows Zero based on Takahashi Hiroshi's best-selling manga. Picking up the story right after the first film, the highly anticipated blockbuster sequel Crows Zero II throws audiences right back into the hyper-stylized world of high school gang violence. Oguri Shun returns as Takaya Genji, whom we last saw fighting his way up the pecking order of gang-infested Suzuran High in hopes of uniting the school under his rule. His chief rival in the first film, Yamada Takayuki, is back, as well as Takaoka Sosuke, Kiritani Kenta, Daito Shunsuke, Yabe Kyosuke, Kamiji Yusuke, Flame's Izaki Yusuke and Izaki Hisato, and sometimes flame Kuroki Meisa. Some new delinquents have been added to the fighting fray including Miura Haruma (Gokusen), Abe Shinnosuke (The Sword of Alexander), and Kaneko Nobuaki (Be-Bop High School). Genji (Oguri Shun) is the new king of Suzuran High after beating Serizawa (Yamada Takayuki), but the school is more fragmented than ever. Suzuran's old rivalry with Hosen Academy flares up again when a former Suzuran student (Abe Shinnosuke) who knifed a Hosen student to death two years ago is released from jail. Hosen's leader Taiga (Kaneko Nobuaki) sends out the boys to get revenge, and Genji unknowingly throws the first punch, breaking the tenuous ceasefire between the two schools. It's all-out gang war all over again, but Genji's fighting on two fronts trying to unite a divided Suzuran against Hosen.

Mei Ah Fallen Angels (VCD) (Remastered Edition) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 59.00
YesAsia
In Chungking Express, director Wong Kar Wai delivered a breezy, effervescent look at two cops falling in and out of love amidst Hong Kong's alienating urban cityscape. Fallen Angels takes the styles and themes presented in Chungking Express and pushes them even further, delving deeper into Hong Kong's sleepless nights to find characters who've truly fallen from grace. Leon Lai is a disaffected hitman who enters a relationship of convenience with a heartbroken flirt (Karen Mok), while his emotionally damaged partner (Michelle Reis) pines for him silently. Meanwhile, a mute child-like grifter (Takeshi Kaneshiro), finds one-sided love with a brassy young woman (Charlie Young), who's also suffering from a broken heart. As Hong Kong's neon nights drag on, these five desperate souls crisscross and collide in hilarious, romantic, and completely surprising ways. Featuring gorgeous cinematography from Christopher Doyle, and a hip soundtrack from Frankie Chan and Roel A. Garcia, Fallen Angels is a dark, stylish and undeniably cinematic portrait of Hong Kong that ranks among Wong Kar Wai's most stunning works!

Mei Ah My Heart Is That Eternal Rose (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 55.00 HKD from YesAsia
Mei Ah My Heart Is That Eternal Rose (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 55.00
YesAsia
Patrick Tam's classic heroic bloodshed action-romance My Heart Is That Eternal Rose is finally arriving on DVD! Before he won multiple Best Director awards for After This, Our Exile, Patrick Tam helmed the 1989 film My Heart Is That Eternal Rose. Headlined by Kenny Bee (Shanghai Blues) and Joey Wang (A Chinese Ghost Story), the film further demonstrates Tam's ability to handle multiple genres with appreciable artistry. Essentially a pulpy romance, My Heart Is That Eternal Rose features plenty of iconography from Hong Kong's storied heroic bloodshed genre. Artful romanticism combined with menacing gangsters, honorable hitmen, and a healthy helping of blood and bullets help make My Heart Is That Eternal Rose a classic Hong Kong film in the truest sense of the word. Tony Leung Chiu Wai co-stars in an award-winning supporting performance, and regular Wong Kar Wai collaborator Christopher Doyle handles the cinematography. Rick (Kenny Bee) and Lap (Joey Wang) are star-crossed lovers whose initial romance is torn apart by the murder of a cop (Ng Man Tat), involving both Rick and her father (Kwan Hoi San). Years later, Rick and Lap meet once more, but circumstances have changed. Rick is now a suave hitman for hire, while Lap is the girlfriend of powerful crime boss Shen (Chan Wai Man). The years and distance have taken their toll on the lovers, but their passion still burns, drawing the two back together. Their treachery does not escape the notice of Shen, nor Shen's right-hand man, played by Shaw Brothers legend Gordon Liu. Rick and Lap's only ally may be Cheung (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), a mousy triad who carries his own torch for Lap. With few options left to the lovers, and with Shen in hot pursuit, the stage is set for a violent, blood-drenched finale.

Mei Ah The Moss (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 24.00 HKD from YesAsia
Mei Ah The Moss (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
HK$ 24.00
YesAsia
Up-and-coming Hong Kong director Derek Kwok follows his acclaimed debut feature The Pye-Dog with the gritty crime and action drama The Moss. Building on overlapping threads and conflicted characters, Kwok applies the narrative style and earthy aesthetics of The Pye-Dog to a much more harrowing and ambitious story. Popular actor Shawn Yue (Invisible Target) gives it his brooding best as a desperate, crooked cop caught between the law, squaring off against long-time-no-see action star Louis Fan Siu Wong (Story of Ricky). In addition to familiar supporting players Eric Tsang, Liu Kai Chi, and Shaun Tam, Kwok fills out the rest of his cast with some less likely names, including Shaw Brothers actress Siu Yam Yam who returned to screens last year in The Pye-Dog, rotund actor Ho Sai Man from Hollywood Hong Kong, and Hong Kong-Indian TV personality Gill Mohindepaul Singh. Former undercover cop Jan (Shawn Yue) may be back on the force, but his life hasn't improved much. He spends most of his days plying the seedy streets of Kowloon, mixing with the triads and participating in the occasional brothel raid. When there's a shakeup in the underworld involving his former boss Tong (Liu Kai Chi), Jan gets unwittingly pulled into the line of fire. By the time the dust settles, Tong is dead, Jan's prostitute girlfriend (Bonnie Xian, Naraka 19) is comatose, and his girlfriend's teenage cousin Fa (newcomer Shi Xueyi) has been kidnapped - all the work of a homeless hitman (Fan Siu Wong). Jan has a dangerous score to settle with the hitman, but he's not the only one on the hunt.
