Shochiku Home Video Shinobi (Blu-ray) (Japan Version) at 340.00 HKD from YesAsia
Shochiku Home Video Shinobi (Blu-ray) (Japan Version)
HK$ 340.00
Directed by Shimoyama Ten, the dazzling 2005 film Shinobi centers on the drama resulting from the war between two ninja clans in the early part of the Tokugawa era. In the film, Nakama Yukie portrays Oboro, the granddaughter of Ogen (Lily), the respected Iga clan matriarch, while Odagiri Jo plays Gennosuke, the son of Danjo Koga (Minoru Terada), the powerful Koga clan leader. While living deep within the mountains, the two ninja clans have honed their skills to superhuman levels. Unfortunately, the clans do not get along and are forbidden by imperial decree from sharing their techniques with each other. Viewing the two ninja clans as a threat to his scheme for total domination, the nefarious Nankobo Tenkai (Ishibashi Renji) plots to intensify the rivalry between the two clans. Nakobo creates a contest in which the clans are forced to choose five of their best warriors to participate. The battle, however, isn't just a friendly contest, it's a duel to the death!

Early in the film, Oboro and Gennosuke meet and fall in love unaware of their clan ties, so when they are both selected to compete they are surprised to discover the truth about one another's identities. Gennosuke initially refuses to participate, but is forced to make an appearance when his compatriots start dropping like flies. The combatants in this contest are not your run-of-the-mill ninja warriors, each has powers beyond that of mortal men. There's the face-changing Saemon Kisaragi (Kinoshita Hoka), the limb-extending Yashamaru (Sakaguchi Taku), the poisonous Kagero (Kurotani Tomoka), and the all-seeing Tenzan Yakushi (Shiina Kippei) just to name a few! Thanks to a great romance plot, breathtaking special effects, and spectacular action choreography, Shinobi offers a one-of-a-kind ninja film that must be seen to be believed!

Shochiku Home Video The Snow White Murder Case (2014) (Blu-ray) (Deluxe Edition) (First Press Limited Edition)(Japan Version)
HK$ 425.00
One woman discovers the destructive power of the internet and social media in The Snow White Murder Case, based on a novel by Confessions author Minato Kanae. Directed by Nakamura Yoshihiro (Fish Story, Golden Slumbers), the mystery-drama deconstructs a seemingly open-and-shut case involving the murder of a beautiful cosmetics company employee by a "plain-looking" co-worker, played by Inoue Mao. Adopting a Rashomon-style narrative structure, Nakamura and screenwriter Hayashi Tamio (Golden Slumbers) show the devastating effects of internet rumors and how they can play with our perception of the truth. In addition to Inoue, The Snow White Murder Case also stars Ayano Go (Rurouni Kenshin) as a Twitter-obsessed reporter and popular model Nanao (Last Cinderella) as the beautiful murder victim.

A beautiful woman (Nanao) working for a cosmetics company has been brutally murdered, but the police have been secretive about the details of the case. One day, ambitious television news director Akahoshi (Ayano Go) gets a call from a friend who works inside the company and learns about the rivalry between the victim and Shirono (Inoue Mao), a "plain-looking" employee who seems to have plenty of motives to commit murder. Akahoshi's subsequent investigative report creates a huge stir on social media, as netizens quickly identify the secret identity behind the "Miss S" in the report. Despite not having been officially sought out by the police, Shirono has already been persecuted publicly as the killer. What is the truth behind the case? Where is Shirono?

This edition comes with a booklet featuring an essay by Minato Kanae, as well as a bonus DVD containing making of, stage events and trailers.

Shochiku Home Video Deguchi no Nai Umi (Special Edition) (First Press Limited Edition) (Japan Version)
HK$ 505.00
First introduced to Japan in 1872, baseball has a long tradition in the land of the rising sun, as evident in the recent influx of talented Japanese players into the Major League. Even during the World War II period when baseball was officially banned, the Japanese government could not stop the pastime from continuing in streets and backyards. Based on popular novelist Yokoyama Hideo's same-titled work, Deguchi no Nai Umi, a.k.a. Sea Without Exit, sets a young man's love for baseball against the turbulence of 1940s wartime Japan. The film's screenplay is written by renowned director Yamada Yoji (The Twilight Samurai) and Tomikawa Motofumi. In the director's chair is Sasabe Kyoshi, who had adapted Yokoyama's Hanochi to great success in 2004.

Deguchi no Nai Umi also marks the film debut of kabuki superstar Ichikawa Ebizo XI. Hailing from Japan's most prestigious kabuki acting family, Ichikawa Ebizo XI broke from tradition to star in the samurai television drama Musashi in 2003. Now the young actor extends his aura to the silver screen. Also starring Ueno Juri (Summertime Machine Blues), Shioya Shun (Pacchigi!), and Iseya Yusuke (Memories of Matsuko), Deguchi no Nai Umi shines a light on a dark period, raising deep questions with simple sentiments.

After winning the national high school championship, young pitcher Namiki Koji (Ichikawa Ebizo XI) enters university in hopes of continuing his baseball dreams. After he injures his elbows, Koji determinedly works on a new "slowball" pitch that will allow him to keep playing. However, World War II soon breaks out, and Koji and his teammates' dreams are swept aside. Enlisted into the military, Koji trains for the suicide submarine mission that awaits him. But even in his darkest hours, Koji never forgets about his slowball.

Takita Yojiro's excellent 2003 samurai epic takes place in Meiji-era Japan, when the few remaining samurai were forced to choose sides and fight for either the Emperor or the Tokugawa Shogunate (a time period familiar to American audiences from The Last Samurai, but explored with more complexity and nuance here). Nakai Kiichi stars as Yoshimura Kanichiro, a principled Bushido warrior whose difficult decisions and complicated path are skillfully revealed through flashback.

This film witnesses the birth of Quill, his growth, and how Quill becomes a guide dog for the blind. How will the adorable Quill deal with his first life and death separation?

Quill is a Labrador Retriever, a breed of dog that has a great tradition of becoming guide dogs for the blind. Quill is distinguished from his brother and sisters with a bird-like birthmark on his body. It did not take long for Quill to be selected for training as a guide dog, and the first "master" Quill is sent to is Mr. Watanabe. Watanabe is a stubborn man, who believes that a walking cane is much more reliable than a guide dog. But after spending time with each other, Watanabe is moved by Quill's selfless love for him. These good times are not to last however, and Quill has to learn the pain of separation for the first time...

Directed by Sai Yoichi, Quill is the film adaptation of the bestselling novel. The story is simple yet extremely moving. It'll surely move you to tears, all you dog-lovers out there!

Shochiku Home Video Sabu (Japan Version)
    HK$ 280.00
One of Miike Takashi's few period films, the 2002 film Sabu is another testament to the maverick filmmaker's versatile repertoire. A tame offering by Miike standards - though still boasting its fair share of blood - Sabu eschews the bombastic violence and twisted characters that some viewers may have come to expect from the director, and tells a compelling tale of friendship and betrayal in the Tokugawa era. Interestingly, Sabu is actually a television movie, but it was shot on proper film usually used for theatrical features, and boasts the A-list casting of Fujiwara Tatsuya (Death Note) and Tsumabuki Satoshi (Nada Sou Sou, Waterboys). With handsome art direction and costumes, steady camerawork, and a haunting score, the film is an effective and moody period piece that should appeal to a wide audience while still satisfying Miike aficionados.

Though poor, Eiji (Fujiwara Tatsuya) and Sabu (Tsumabuki Satoshi) don't have much to complain about, living out normal, honest lives as laborers in Tokugawa Japan. Eiji is framed for stealing, and exiled to an island prison camp. Thrown into a rough and brutal environment, he must fight each and everyday to survive. Life on the island slowly transforms him, and his only motivation for survival is revenge on those who brought him to this existence. Sabu tries everything he can to help free Eiji, but when the friends finally meet again, it is a completely different man that stands before Sabu.

Shochiku Home Video Tokyo Family (Blu-ray) (Deluxe Edition) (First Press Limited Edition)(Japan Version)
    HK$ 485.00
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of director Ozu Yasujiro's death, veteran Japanese director Yamada Yoji's 50 years as a director and the 60th anniversary of Tokyo Story, Yamada Yoji pays tribute to the timeless classic with Tokyo Family, his 82nd film. A contemporary update of Tokyo Story, Tokyo Family follows the basic structure of the Ozu film, but updates the original story's pessimistic message, which laments the erosion of familial bond in a rapidly developing postwar Japan, to a modern one that is more optimistic about today's young generation. At the same time, Yamada also recognizes that the fragmentation of the family unit seen in the original film is just as relevant today as it was back in 1953.

The biggest change Yamada and co-writer Hiramatsu Emiko make from Tokyo Story is replacing the family's widowed daughter-in-law with a wayward youngest son and his kind girlfriend, played by Tsumabuki Satoshi (For Love's Sake) and Aoi Yu (Rurouni Kenshin), respectively. The two are joined by a talented cast of actors, including Hashitzume Isao (I Wish), Yoshiyuki Kazuko (Departures), Natsukawa Yui (Still Walking), Nishimura Masahiko (Space Brothers), Nakajima Tomoko (A Taste of Tea) and Hayashiya Shozo. Featuring a score by Hisaishi Joe, Tokyo Family is a touching human drama that isn't just the story of one family; this is everyone's story.

Retired teacher Shukichi (Hashizume Isao) and his wife Tomiko temporarily leave their peaceful island life to visit their children in Tokyo: eldest son Koiichi (Nishimura Masahiko), daughter Shigeko (Nakajima Tomoko) and unreliable youngest son Shoji (Tsumabuki Satoshi). Due to the children's busy schedules, Shukichi and Tomiko are shuffled around Tokyo from home to home. The two are especially worried about Shoji, who has been a burden on the family in the past and now barely scraping by as a stage set designer. Fortunately, Tomiko finds solace when she meets Shoji's kind girlfriend Noriko (Aoi Yu). However, the two parents' hectic schedule eventually takes a toll on them...

This edition includes making of, a stage event collection, trailers and other bonus video content.

Shochiku Home Video Coffee Jikou (Cafe Lumiere) (Japan Version)

A cup of coffee is enough to transform your mood - at least it works for Yoko (Yo Hitoto) in Hou Hsiao Hsien's Cafe Lumiere. Yoko finds her peace in enjoying coffee with her friend Hajime (Asano Tadanobu). With a cup of coffee in her hands, she can retreat from her own problems and stay calm, even for just a while, so that she will have the courage to move on to another stage in her life.

Yoko is a freelance writer researching on the Taiwan-born Japanese singer Jiang Ewn-ye. She met Hajime, the owner of a second-hand bookstore, while doing research at his shop. Since then the two have spent a good deal of quality time together in coffee shops. One day Yoko discovers that she is pregnant and she announces to her parents, whom she has not seen for a while, that she has decided to become an unwed mother. Her parents are worried, but Hajime feels even worse for he cannot express his love for Yoko. Meanwhile, Yoko's research on Jiang Ewn-ye has inspired her to reexamine her relationships with her family, Hajime, the baby, and many others.

This film is a tribute to Japanese master Ozu Yasujiro to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birthday. The spirit of Ozu's films, especially Tokyo Story, can easily be felt in Coffee Lumiere. Hou Hsiao Hsien admits that he has been thinking of how Ozu would have shot a film in today's Japan. Cafe Lumiere has been selected for numerous film festivals.

Now each Cafe Lumiere DVD comes with a bonus 180 minute DVD which contains:
    1. Footage on Yoko's life and outdoor shooting in Hokkaido, edited by Hou himself.
    2. Interview with Asano Tadanobu and Hitoto Yo
    3. Interview with Hou Hsiao Hsien and the making of the film
    4. The French documentary Metro Lumiere (with Japanese subtitles)
    5. Footage on the Venice Film Festival and the film premiere

The crime lies in the mind in the twist-filled sci-fi suspense The Top Secret: Murder in Mind from Rurouni Kenshin director Otomo Keishi. Based on Shimizu Reiko's manga Himitsu - Top Secret, the intriguing thriller is set in the late 21st century when advanced MRI technology allows the police to retrieve memories from the brains of even the dead. Ikuta Toma (Grasshopper) and Okada Masaki (Space Brothers) team up as the aloof genius chief and hot-headed rookie investigator of Department 9, a special forensics team that makes use of the brain scanner for criminal investigation. Delving into the minds and memories of victims and criminals, they struggle to crack unsolved cases while also navigating the grave ethical implications and psychological fallout of their actions.

With Department 9 in danger of being shut down, the team takes on their possibly final case: a death row prisoner convicted of killing his family. They go deep into his mind to find the root of murder, but getting out may not be so easy. Kikkawa Koji (Rurouni Kenshin), Matsuzaka Tori (Mozu The Movie), Kuriyama Chiaki (Library Wars), Lily Franky (Like Father, Like Son), Shiina Kippei (Assassination Classroom) and Omori Nao (Parasyte) also co-star in the mind-bending mystery.

    HK$ 350.00

The Kogaban First Press Limited Edition of Shinobi comes with five Kogaban character cards, plus the Kogaban bonus disc, containing the following special features:
