Hoshi Izumi. High school student. Yakuza leader. Bringing a classic story to television screens once more, 2006 TBS drama Sailor Suit and Machine Gun is a resoundingly entertaining mixture of adolescent tropes, kinetic action, and gang satire. Based on an Akagawa Jiro novel, this innovative story about a schoolgirl-cum-gangster was previously adapted into a 1982 Fuji TV drama and, of course, the classic 1981 film starring top 80s idol Yakushimaru Hiroko. Taking on the drama's gun-wielding leading role this time around is starlet Nagasawa Masami. Nagasawa has been a name on the rise in the last few years, with starring roles in dramas like Dragon Zakura and Yasashii Jikan and popular youth films like Touch and Nada Sou Sou, and her performance here helps seal her status as one of the most promising and most popular young actresses in Japan. High school student Hoshi Izumi (Nagasawa Masami) is just a normal teenaged schoolgirl, but in the blink of an eye, all that she knows about life is changed. Her father dies suddenly in an accident. Soon after, gangster Sakuma (Tsutsumi Shinichi) shows up at her doorstep, claiming that she is the heir to their gang, as she is the last distant relative of their boss who just passed away. Izumi naturally refuses, but is eventually won over by the persistence of the tattered gang, reduced to only five members. And with that, Izumi becomes the eighth-generation leader of the Medaka Gumi gang.

You can run from your crimes, but you can never escape the watchful eyes of Detective Kaga Kyoichiro. After the popular television adaptations of Shinzanmono and Akai Yubi, the inquisitive crime fighter from Higashino Keigo's popular novel series now hits the big screen with Wings of the Kirin. In his latest case, the stern crime solver must dig out the truth in a seemingly open-and-shut case involving a stabbing at the famous Nihonbashi. After his popular turn as Kaga on the two previous television adaptations, Abe Hiroshi plays the brilliant detective for the third time in Kirin. In addition to the return of regulars Mizobata Junpei (as Kaga's cousin/partner), Kuroki Meisa (as a local reporter), and Yamazaki Tsutomu (as Kaga's ailing father), Abe is also joined by a new supporting cast that includes Aragaki Yui (Hanamizuki), Tanaka Rena (The Tale of Genji), and Nakai Kiichi (Once in a Blue Moon). Kaga Kyoichiro (Abe Hiroshi) is brought in to investigate a case of a salaryman (Nakai Kiichi) found dead on Tokyo's Nihonbashi. After the man's co-worker was found hit by a truck after fleeing the crime scene, the police think that they have an open-and-shut case on their hands. However, the ever-observant Kaga thinks that there's more to what's on the surface and begins to investigate deeper, from the dead man's son to the suspect's girlfriend (Aragaki Yui). Follow the clues and see if you can keep up with the brilliant mind of Detective Kaga. Deluxe Edition includes making of, a collection of stage events, interviews, trailers, and a 40-page booklet.

Biri Gal) is based on the inspiring true story of how a delinquent teenage girl went from the bottom of the class to being admitted to one of Japan's top universities in just one year's time. Arimura Kasumi (Strobe Edge) plays heroine Sayaka, a second-year high school student who stands out with her dyed blonde hair and short mini-skirts. Deemed an airhead and a problem student, she is at the academic level of a fourth grader. Sayaka's mother sends her to a private tutoring school where she finally meets a teacher (Ito Atsushi, Mozu) who believes in her. With his help, Sayaka begins to wholeheartedly study for the college entrance exam and strive towards the seemingly impossible goal of entering Keio University. Directed by blockbuster filmmaker Doi Nobuhiro (The Wings of Kirin, Hanamizuki), Flying Colors is an underdog, coming-of-age tale that shows how the right teacher can change a student's life.

Koshikame the Movie - Save the Kachidiki Bridge! stars the cast of the 2009 television drama, namely SMAP's Katori Shingo as scheming middle-aged cop Kankichi, Karina as socialite police officer Catherine Reiko, and Hayami Mokomichi as police department womanizer Keiichi. This time, Kankichi undergoes a professional crisis when his first love (played by Fukada Kyoko) comes to town, forcing him to choose between love and his professional commitment. In 2004, cult director Miike Takashi made his first foray into family entertainment with the superhero film Zebraman. The film, starring Aikawa Sho as a teacher in the year 2010 who takes up the identity of a TV hero from his childhood and saves the world from aliens in the process, became Miike's biggest hit at the time. Six years later, Miike and writer Kudo Kankuro (Shonen Merikensack) reunite for Zebraman: Vengeful Zebra City, a sequel that takes the Zebraman saga into the year 2025, during which the striped hero is called upon to save the world from an Orwellian-esque government. In addition to legendary Aikawa returning as the Zebra suit-donning hero, Naka Riisa (Toki wo Kakeru Shojo) steals the show with a sexy performance as leather-clad villain Zebra Queen. 15 years after the events of the first Zebraman, Ichikawa (Aikawa Sho) wakes up from his 15-year-long slumber. It's now 2025, Tokyo has been renamed Zebra City, and its corrupted ruler has allowed the police force - named Zebra Police - to kill anyone they suspect of a crime during two five-minute periods each day. Ichikawa is attacked by the police during such a period and loses memory of his superhero past. Taken in by a young man who recognizes him from 2010, Ichikawa slowly recovers his memories and vows to defeat the villainous Zebra Queen (Naka Riisa). However, the Zebra Queen has an even more evil plan in the works. Blu-ray Edition comes with a bonus DVD with the making of the film, the making of the Zebra Queen music video, stage greeting, and trailers.

Singer-songwriter Hitoto Yo based the lyrics for the ballad Hanamizuki on a series of e-mails she received from a friend after the September 11 terrorist attacks. About overcoming obstacles on the road to eternal love, the song became an award-winning hit that has consistently been one of the most requested songs in Japanese karaoke parlors nationwide since its release in 2004. In the tradition of music-derived pure romance films like Signs of Love and Tears for You, director Doi Nobuhiro (Be With You) now brings another hit song's story to life with Hanamizuki. Written by longtime television scriptwriter Yoshida Noriko - who also adapted the song Nada Sou Sou into Tears For You - Hanamizuki is now a story about two young lovers torn apart by circumstances who continue to stay in love for over a decade. Actress-singer Aragaki Yui (Koizora) and Ikuta Toma (Ningen Shikkaku) have plenty of romantic chemistry as the film's central couple, while Mukai Osamu (Hotaru no Hikari 2), Yakushimaru Hiroko (The Always series), Matsushige Yutaka (Sukiyaki Western Django), and Arata (Air Doll) also provide strong supporting performances. With attractive stars and the equally attractive scenery of Hokkaido, Tokyo, and New York, Hanamizuki is the perfect film for the pure romance film fan in everyone. Sae (Aragaki Yui) and Kohei (Ikuta Toma) first meet when the latter tries to help Sae get to her driving test. However, the ensuing accident during the effort causes Kohei to quit school and work for his fisherman father (Matsushige Yutaka), while Sae loses her chance to study in a prestigious Tokyo university. The two eventually fall in love, but are separated when Sae takes a second opportunity to go to Tokyo. Even though they are committed to a long-distance relationship, Sae's friendship with handsome photographer Junichi (Mukai Osamu) and Kohei's struggle to keep his father's business afloat threaten to drive them apart. Blu-ray Edition comes with audio commentary and trailers.

Zeze Takahisa (Heaven's Story) adapts Yokoyama Hideo's award-winning mystery novel 64 into an epic two-part crime suspense featuring some of the biggest names in Japanese cinema. Awarded Best Actor at the 40th Japan Academy Prize for his role as an aged police officer investigating an unsolved kidnapping case, Sato Koichi leads a sprawling cast that includes Ayano Go, Eikura Nana, Eita, Nagase Masatoshi, Kubota Masataka, Sakaguchi Kentaro, Natsukawa Yui, Ogata Naoto, Shiina Kippei, Nakamura Toru, Okuda Eiji, Emoto Tasuku, Yoshioka Hidetaka and Miura Tomokazu. The film's title refers to Year 64 of the Showa era which ended on January 8, 1989 upon the death of Showa Emperor Hirohito. On January 5, 1989, a little girl was kidnapped. After the ransom was paid, the culprit escaped, and the girl's body soon turned up. For years after, the notorious unsolved case dubbed "Six-Four" continues to weigh on the mind of police officer Mikami (Sato Koichi), who was transferred to public relations after the failed investigation. In 2003, one year before the statute of limitations expires for the Six-Four case, a kidnapping case that's eerily similar to Six-Four occurs. The new case becomes a final lead into the Six-Four mystery for Mikami and others who never let go of the terrible events that happened 14 years ago in the last week of Showa 64. This edition comes with Parts 1 and 2 of the film, a booklet and two bonus discs of special features including making-of, stage greeting, interviews, movie navi features, special talks and trailers.

One of the longest-running mangas in Japanese history, Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo (a.k.a. Kochikame) is hitting the big screen in live action once again for its 35th anniversary! No stranger to manga-based live-action comedies, director Kawamura Yasuhiro (Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score) delivers a hilarious Kochikame chapter that may even leave you a bit teary-eyed. After the events of the television series, mischievous police officer Kankichi (Katori Shingo) is back to his old ways at Kameari Park. One day, he is reunited with childhood crush Momoko (Fukada Kyoko), now a single mother working for a dance group. In love with Momoko once again, Kankichi begins contemplating a life of marital bliss with Momoko and decides to quit the police force. Suddenly, Momoko's daughter - initially mistaken as the police commissioner's granddaughter - is kidnapped, forcing Kankichi to spring back to action and prove his merit as an elite police officer.

Miike Takashi hit box office gold in 2007 with the high school brawler Crows Zero based on Takahashi Hiroshi's best-selling manga. Picking up the story right after the first film, the highly anticipated blockbuster sequel Crows Zero II throws audiences right back into the hyper-stylized world of high school gang violence. Oguri Shun returns as Takaya Genji, whom we last saw fighting his way up the pecking order of gang-infested Suzuran High in hopes of uniting the school under his rule. His chief rival in the first film, Yamada Takayuki, is back, as well as Takaoka Sosuke, Kiritani Kenta, Daito Shunsuke, Yabe Kyosuke, Kamiji Yusuke, Flame's Izaki Yusuke and Izaki Hisato, and sometimes flame Kuroki Meisa. Some new delinquents have been added to the fighting fray including Miura Haruma (Gokusen), Abe Shinnosuke (The Sword of Alexander), and Kaneko Nobuaki (Be-Bop High School). Genji (Oguri Shun) is the new king of Suzuran High after beating Serizawa (Yamada Takayuki), but the school is more fragmented than ever. Suzuran's old rivalry with Hosen Academy flares up again when a former Suzuran student (Abe Shinnosuke) who knifed a Hosen student to death two years ago is released from jail. Hosen's leader Taiga (Kaneko Nobuaki) sends out the boys to get revenge, and Genji unknowingly throws the first punch, breaking the tenuous ceasefire between the two schools. It's all-out gang war all over again, but Genji's fighting on two fronts trying to unite a divided Suzuran against Hosen. Blu-ray edition comes with one postcard and bonus DVD containing making of, theater manners CM making of, stage greeting, and other extras.

The popular Kisarazu Cat's Eye franchise comes to a wistful end with Kisarazu Cat's Eye World Series. First aired in 2002, the original TBS television series follows the adventures of five baseball-loving friends. They form a Robin Hood-like burglar ring in their quiet hometown of Kisarazu at the beckoning of their cancer-stricken leader who is determined to make his final days excitingly worthwhile. By day they play baseball, by night they wreak hilarious havoc. Innovative, heartwarming, and comical, the youthful series gained a huge fan following; feature film Kisarazu Cat's Eye Japan Series was released the following year, becoming a big box office hit. Three years later, the series' second and supposedly final film, Kisarazu Cat's Eye World Series, surpassed the achievements of its predecessor, topping the Japanese box office and grossing over two billion yen. The entire team returns for the film including director Kaneko Fumiki, writer Kudo Kankuro, and cast members Okada Junichi (Hana Yori mo Naho) of V6, Sakurai Sho (Honey and Clover) of Arashi, Sato Ryuta (Tokyo Friends), Tsukamoto Takashi (Taiya no Uta), and Okada Yoshinori (Train Man). Kisarazu Cat's Eye World Series is full of the quirky humor, off-the-wall situations, and baseball fever that has made the series an audience favorite. The story picks up three years after the death of Kisarazu Cat's Eye leader Bussan (Okada Junichi). The rest of the gang - Bambi (Sakurai Sho), Master (Sato Ryuta), Ani (Tsukamoto Takashi), and Uchi (Okada Yoshinori) - has disbanded, and it seems the days of the past are long gone. Masta and Ani have left for better places. Ucchie is in the Self-Defense Force, mostly getting harassed by his menacing female commander (Kuriyama Chiaki, Kill Bill). Only Bambi remains in Kisarazu, and one day he hears a voice from above: "If you build it, he will come." Bambi goes about rounding up the original gang, and sure enough he - Bussan's spirit - does return Field of Dreams-style, along with a baseball team of zombies.

"Do me wrong, and I'll fire back. Double payback!" Former bank employee Ikeido Jun used his professional knowledge to tell suspenseful stories set in the finance world. Now, the team behind Mr. Brain and Shinzanmono bring the author's Hanzawa Naoki series to life with a television series! Based on Oretachi Bubble Nyukou-gumi and Oretachi Hana no Bubble-gumi, Hanzawa Naoki depicts the trials and tribulations of a righteous bank employee (played by Sakai Masato) who takes on corrupted businessmen, an overzealous taxman and most importantly, the shady upper management of his bank. Showing the brutal reality of selfish bosses who take all the credit for themselves and push the blame to their subordinates, Ikeido and scriptwriter Yatsu Hiroyuki has created the ultimate white-collar hero for Japanese audiences and a surprise ratings sensation. With an average rating of 42.2%, its finale was the highest-rated single episode for a television drama in the Heisei era. Based in Osaka, Hanzawa Naoki (Sakai Masato) is an ambitious white-collar worker who intends to climb quickly up the ranks of the Tokyo Central Bank. As the head of the loan division, he is pressured by his branch manager to grant a loan to a steel company in order to fulfill a branch quota. However, the company quickly goes under, and its owner has disappeared. The branch manager quickly places the blame squarely on Hanzawa, demanding Hanzawa to take responsibility for the loss of 500 million yen. Believing that there's a conspiracy behind the shady deal, Hanzawa will stop at nothing to clear his name and get his revenge on those responsible, even if it means taking on the tax bureau. This edition includes the director's cut of the final episode and other bonus video content. It also comes with a 20-page booklet.

Prolific maverick director Miike Takashi certainly kept the masses happy in 2007 with the release of three high-profile ready-made cult films. Sukiyaki Western Django and Like a Dragon both had enough Miike magic to spare, but it's Crows Zero (a.k.a. Crows - Episode 0) that comes out on top of the heap as the auteur's most commercially successful film to date. Thanks to his extreme themes and even more extreme presentation, Miike alienates as much as he attracts, but he's got a legitimate box office hit on his hands with Crows Zero. Based on Takahashi Hiroshi's bestselling manga Crows, Crows Zero takes Miike to familiar territory - high school gang violence - and he cuts through the subject matter at high-octane speed for a stylized, action-packed, and entertaining schoolyard brawl of a movie. Delving into the hyper-stylized world of feuding high school gangs, Crows Zero actually takes place before the events of the manga (hence the title), setting up the origins and rivalries of the iconic characters. Other than the avid fanbase that already exists for the manga, Crows Zero gets some extra box office pull with the casting of heartthrobs Oguri Shun (Kisaragi) and Yamada Takayuki (Train Man) as the lead delinquents. Oguri, who also featured in Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django, continues to impress as one of Japanese cinema's most talented young stars, while Yamada Takayuki leaves behind the sensitive romantic lead image he's cultivated from numerous tearjerkers for a hard-hitting bout in the ring. Rounding out the film's problem teenager cast are Yabe Kyousuke (Dead or Alive, Kids Return), Kuroki Meisa (Under the Same Moon), and Izaki Yusuke and Izaki Hisato from boy band Flame. Takaya Genji (Oguri Shun) just transferred to Suzuran, a high school notorious for its gang violence. At Suzuran High, hallways are battle zones, bloody brawls are everyday occurrences, and student life is dominated by the political winds of the school's many factions. Genji didn't end up here by accident though. He's here to do what even his yakuza father (Kishitani Goro) couldn't accomplish years before - rule the school. Already stirring up a storm on the first day, Genji is determined to fight his way up the pecking order and unite the gangs. But not if alpha crow Serizawa Tamao (Yamada Takayuki) has anything to say about it. Comes with postcard plus previews.

Based on Yoshinaga Fuyumi's award-winning comic Ooku: The Inner Chambers, The Lady Shogun and Her Men introduced an alternate reality in which women became the dominant sex after a virus wiped out the majority of the male population. The live-action adaptation project of the Ooku manga series continued two years later with a television drama series (based on chapters two to four), and it now ends with The Castle of Crossed Destinies, the second Ooku feature film. Based on chapters four to six of the manga, The Castle of Crossed Destinies takes place 30 years after the events of the television drama, with its star Sakai Masato starring again as a new character. Playing the all-powerful shogun in this chapter is Kanno Miho, who has to pick one man among 3,000 suitors vying for her affections and power within the inner chambers. While most men in the court ruled by shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (Kanno Miho) scheme their way to power by serving as her concubines, Emonnosuke (Sakai Masato) finds his way to power as a dissenting voice against her. When Tsunayoshi's only child dies, Emonnosuke promoted to a high position in the inner chamber goes in search for the right man to impregnate the shogun. As Tsunayoshi remains barren over the years, Emonnosuke and the shogun grow closer together. This edition includes trailers.

When it comes to acting, Arashi leader Ohno Satoshi is more likely to appear on stage than onscreen, having earned much acclaim over the years for his theater work. For his first television leading role, Ohno stars as a two-faced serial killer in the TBS crime and suspense drama Maou, a Japanese remake of the 2007 Korean drama Devil starring Ju Ji Hoon and Uhm Tae Woong. Ohno takes on the challenge of playing an affable lawyer who is in reality a cold-blooded killer calmly plotting his revenge. Leaving school dramas behind, fellow Johnny's heartthrob Ikuta Toma from Hanazakari no Kimitachi e and Honey and Clover plays a dogged detective with a dark past chasing after the devil himself. Maou also co-stars Kobayashi Ryoko (Sunadokei), Tanaka Kei (Loss Time Life), and Oshinari Shugo (Yamada Taro Monogatari). This release comes with two bonus discs of special features.

After dealing with the trials and tribulations of a young rocker in the two Nana movies, director Otani Kentaro turns his attention to a young aspiring fashion designer in Runway Beat, based on a popular cell phone novel by Harada Maha. The youth drama, adapted by Solanin scriptwriter Takahashi Izumi, stars D-Boys' Seto Koji as a transfer student who brings his new classmates together to put on a big year-end fashion show at their high school. The "runway" in the film's title refers to both the runway in a fashion show and a figurative runway for the characters as they take off into adulthood. Producer Mase Yasuhiro (Departures) said that he was inspired to make a youth film after going to a Funky Monkey Babys concert, and the group provides the film's theme song here. Beat (Seto Koji) is an emotionally troubled youth who is entering a new high school. There, he meets a group of new friends, including Mei (Sakuraba Nanami), her friend Anna (Imalu), model Miki (Kiritani Mirei), and otaku Satoru (Tanaka Kei). A talented fashion designer, Beat eventually convinces his new friends to come together and put on a fashion show at the end of the school year. In the process, the classmates find friendship in each other, and Beat may even find love with Mei. Haute Couture 3D Blu-ray Edition includes both 2D and 3D versions of the film (3D TV and Blu-ray player required for 3D version). It also comes with a bonus DVD with making of, deleted scenes, cast interview, a roundtable discussion, stage event, a special comment by Funky Monkey Babys, and trailers.
