04 September 2017 | Febriana Ramadhanya

We can’t live without our pearly whites and we don’t only mean our teeth. To keep our white clothes, well, white, using bleach when doing laundry is necessary. But using too much bleach can sometimes be dangerous as strong chemicals are mainly used for the bleach ingredients.

Most laundry bleach uses chlorine and lye; these chemicals can cause skin irritation to liver damage and can be proved extremely dangerous when frequently inhaled. Chlorine has a high chance to become poisonous when mixed with other substances like ammonia or vinegar.

Nevertheless, there are safer and less-toxic alternatives to the regular bleach that you’d usually find in the grocery stores. You can either make your own bleaching solutions at home or, if you’re feeling lazy, opt for these less-toxic laundry bleach instead. Not only will your whites stay white but you’ll also distance yourself from hazardous substances.

L to R: OxiClean, Nature Clean, and SoapWorks

OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover

Instead of relying on chlorine to remove tough stains and brighten white clothes, OxiClean bleach uses hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate as its active ingredients. This means, in place of chlorine, OxiClean uses oxygen to do its job. When in contact with water, oxygen is released and once it has done removing stains, the substance turns itself into H2O, making the solution completely safe. Hydrogen peroxide is not at all toxic and it’s safe to use even for washing your baby’s clothes.

Nature Clean All-Natural Liquid Bleach

All of us who are used to do laundry by ourselves are familiar with the strong stench of chlorine bleach. The smell itself should be a sign that the chemicals used as the ingredients shouldn’t be used too frequently. As an alternative, opt for an all-natural laundry bleach instead like the ones offered by Nature Clean. Nature Clean All-Natural Liquid Bleach also uses hydrogen peroxide to remove stains.
