As you can see from the table above, both phones sport remarkable specs that explains why they are considered the top 2 smartphones available on the market today. However, let’s break down the features even further to determine which of these phones will emerge tops.

The Galaxy S9 is regarded as the sleekest smartphone to date, especially with thinner bezels that make the screen even more appealing. The fingerprint sensor is also placed in a better position – below the rear camera – which makes it more accessible. You also get to choose from four colour options for the Galaxy S9 – Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, and Titanium Gray compared to the iPhone X’s options of Space Gray and Silver.

The iPhone X, however, looks more luxurious than the Galaxy S9 due to its stainless-steel body. The screen takes up the entire front frame except for a notch on the top that sports the front camera and sensors. However, the phone lacks a headphone jack, which might be a turnoff for users who are used to plugging their headsets into their phones.

Verdict: Both phones are striking so it’s hard to determine a clear winner. It’s up to personal preference.

Although iPhone X puts up a good fight in the display department, the Samsung S9 emerges as the undisputed champion. The latter comes with a higher-resolution 2,960 x 1,440p Super AMOLED display which results in deeper blacks and more accurate colour reproduction compared to the 2,436 x 1,125p OLED screen of the iPhone X. The added pop of colour provided by Samsung also means that games, films, and other visual content on the device is much more immersive and realistic.

Verdict: The Galaxy S9 triumphs over the iPhone X in terms of colour accuracy, sharpness, and overall image quality of the content.

The Galaxy S9’s rear camera excels in low-light environments thanks to the SuperSpeed Dual Pixel Camera that has an aperture which can go as wide as f/1.5. This means that it lets in more light which leads to clearer and more detailed photos compared to the primary camera on the iPhone X. Another highlight of the S9’s camera lies in its Super Slo-Mo functionality, which enables the phone to capture slow-motion photos up to 960 frames per second.

The same cannot be said about daytime shots though, as the dual iPhone X rear cameras capture warmer, more vibrant colours without overexposing the subjects. The dual cameras also ensure that users can capture more detailed photos across all shooting modes and lighting conditions.

Verdict: Both phones are neck-and-neck as they deliver superb photo and video quality, but the iPhone X wins out by a hair as it provides better photo quality in general.

As both models are the crème de la crème of their respective brands, you can trust that both phones deliver lightning-fast performance. The Galaxy S9 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor that is supported by 4GB of RAM. This lethal combination enables the phone to handle any app available in Google Play including demanding tasks like playing intensive games, streaming HD films, and multitasking. However, unlike the iPhone X, the S9 enables you to expand its storage further via a microSD card.

However, no matter how speedy the Galaxy S9 is, it is still unable to catch up to the iPhone X. With its A11 Bionic chipset and 3GB of RAM, the iPhone X outperforms the Galaxy S9 in all aspects, be it general performance, loading time or fluidity while switching between apps.

Verdict: iPhone X soundly comes up top performance-wise.

Battery Life and Charging

In terms of battery capacity, the Galaxy S9’s 3000mAh battery is slightly larger than the one in the iPhone X with 2,716mAh. However, both phones are capable of lasting through a busy day easily even with heavy usage that includes browsing the Web, playing games, streaming music, etc. Moreover, both offer wireless charging and fast-charging capabilities hence they can be recharged fully within a short period of time. However, the Galaxy S9’s recharges faster given the same amount of time, which gives it the slight edge over the iPhone X.

Verdict: The S9 takes the win in the battery life department.

Considering that both phones offer top-notch specs, the price they are being sold at can be a determinant factor in your decision to purchase it. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is priced at HK$ 6,299.00 while you need to fork out about HK$ 8,588.00 for the iPhone X. Hence, the S9 is kinder to the budget than the latter.

Verdict: Price-wise, Samsung Galaxy S9 is slightly more affordable than the iPhone X.

Ultimately, the Galaxy S9 wins in terms of display, battery life, and price while the iPhone X has the advantage when it comes to camera and performance. This means that the Galaxy S9 emerges victorious out of this close battle.
